Introduction to
Bookkeeping Using Quickbooks Pro

This class combines lectures with hands-on computer experience to give students the opportunity to apply the bookkeeping skills learned in the classroom to a computer, as is done in small businesses today. Learn the basics of bookkeeping for sole proprietorships using a popular bookkeeping program. Topics covered include assets, liabilities, capital, debits and credits, journal entries, T-accounts, posting, accounts receivable and payable, inventory processing, adjusting and closing entries, balance sheet and income statement reports. We will use lectures, sample questions from the text and skill exercises in the lab. Some Windows experience is necessary for the computer lab section of the class.

Screening and Selecting Stocks

Older adults will learn the basics about selecting investments in common stock. In this intensive series, we’ll circulate relevant news articles and discuss today’s market at the beginning of each class. We’ll introduce the fundamentals of measuring the cost of current stock price and develop and test a forecast for a target price in a “follow the leader” workshop portion of the class. We’ll discuss and demonstrate safeguards to limit risk and identify sources of market information useful to students and helpful in classroom discussions. The Value Line publication, available in the local library, is the source of most data used in measuring cost and target pricing.
