MIND &
SUPERMIND:
Expanding the Limits of Consciousness by Nancy Keller Our series “Mind & Supermind: Expanding the Limits of Consciousness” launches a new season bringing four highly popular, widely acclaimed speakers to the Lobero Theatre stage on 4 Monday evenings this Fall. The series kicks off
on September 22 with Jack Canfield speaking on Powers of
the Mind, Desires
of the Heart. Jack is co-founder of the best-selling Chicken
Soup for
the Soul book series, and author of The
Success Principles and Jack Canfield’s Key to Living the Law of
Attraction. He is also featured in the book and
movie The Secret. On this evening, Jack will speak on the power of positive focus, deliberate intention, and the art of allowing the law of attraction to more effortlessly manifest your heart’s true desires in every area of your life – from the inner (greater joy and inner peace) to the outer (more fulfilling relationships, more dynamic health, greater abundance, and a socially just world). On October 6, Frank Ostaseski will speak on The Spirit of Service. At some juncture most of us are called to service in some
way. Seen as
a practice of awareness, service
becomes a spiritual practice. This perspective reminds us that real
service is always mutually beneficial. Frank
will explore how the three innate qualities of Love, Joy and Compassion
can guide us in our service.Frank founded the first Buddhist hospice in America and in 2004 he created the Metta Institute, which reaffirms the spiritual dimensions of dying. He has been featured on the Bill Moyers television series On Our Own Terms, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and in numerous print publications. In 2001, Frank was honored by the Dalai Lama for his many years of compassionate service to the dying and their families. In 2003, he was named one of America’s 50 most innovative people by AARP magazine. (Co-sponsor: Hospice of Santa Barbara) Just one week later, on October 13, Barbara
Marx-Hubbard speaks on Evolutionary Spirituality: The Next
Stage of Consciousness Now
Emerging.President of The Foundation for Conscious Evolution, Barbara is a noted speaker. She is also the author of five books, including Conscious Evolution: Awakening the Power of our Social Potential, and the producer of Gateway to Conscious Evolution, a guided evolutionary curriculum that reaches a worldwide audience. She is currently producing a film series entitled Humanity Ascending: A NewWay through Together. Barbara communicates the new world view of conscious evolution, evolutionary leadership, and social connectivity. In this evening’s talk she offers insights into the new spirituality, its roots in traditional religion, its contribution to conscious evolution, and how we can deepen spirituality in our lives. Our fall series
concludes on November 10 with noted author Sam Keen
sharing his thoughts on Fragments of a Future Religion – the
“now and future
religion for the
whole hearted, the tough minded
and the politically concerned.”Sam was, in his words, “overeducated at Harvard and Princeton” and was a professor of philosophy and religion at “various legitimate institutions” and a contributing editor of Psychology Today for 20 years before becoming a free-lance thinker, lecturer, seminar leader, consultant and author. He was the subject of an hourlong PBS special Bill Moyers – Your Mythic Journey with Sam Keen. He has written over a dozen books, including the best-selling Hymns to an Unknown God and Fire in the Belly: On Being a Man. Each of these events is free. You can preregister for the series on Thursday, September 11 at the Schott Center (310 W. Padre Street) or thereafter at either the Schott or Wake Center (300 N. Turnpike Rd.), or at the door as space permits. (See Psychology) Top | Home | Classes | Services | Events | News | FAQ | Contact | SBCC |
